Description

When I was a child, I was painfully shy. Being an only child meant I wasn’t very good at making friends. I spent most of my time either with my parents or by myself, so I didn’t have a whole lot of opportunities to work on my social skills. But on almost every progress report, one of my teachers would say, “Excellent student but talks too much.”

I hear you. How could I have been shy and talkative at the same time? Well, I talked to the people I liked—even if they didn’t like me. Looking back, most of my classmates probably thought I was annoying. I mean, I can’t stand it when people I don’t really know, or like, start talking to me out of the blue, so I have no doubt they didn’t enjoy it either. (God clearly has a sense of humor).
