Hello and welcome to my 5th episode of Quantum Waves of Wellness. This is Dr. Paula Apro and today I'm celebrating the fact that I successfully kept my podcasting resolution up for the entire month of January. The saying goes that if you can stick to doing something new for a month, it's more likely to become a habit, so fingers crossed.

Last month I shared lots of little tidbits that I learned about Feng Shui. I had so much fun delving into this topic and I have a long list of modifications that I want to make to all the rooms in my house. I'm super excited and can't wait to start making them . . . however, truth be told . . . I'm not at home and won't return home until the spring. I'm a bit disappointed to have to put all of my home-rearranging enthusiasm on hold, but I can't really complain about having the privilege to escape the long cold Maine winters.

I am so very fortunate and grateful to be able to spend 6 or 7 weeks a year in the Mexican Rivera. Mexico is a very special place for me because it's where this whole new career in energy medicine started. I told my story about overcoming years of chronic neck pain but I didn't exactly share the details of how I did it, so let me do that now.

After a non-stop 8-year struggle with an awful chronic neck pain and pinched nerve situation that robbed me of so much joy in the prime of my life, I broke down and had cervical spinal surgery. As I mentioned in my first podcast, that Western medicine Baid-aid fell off within the first 18 months and I was back to where I started with the pain starting to creep back.

That was when I decided to do something really different and a bit drastic. And this actually ties into my last few episodes about Feng Shui. We often forget to look outside of us for problems that are happening inside of us. One of my favorite humans, Dr. Bruce Lipton, discovered in his research that it is our environment that controls our gene expression. https://www.brucelipton.com/think-beyond-your-genes-february-2024/

Now I'm not going to get all "sciency" on you but what this means is that our environment has a very powerful effect on how our cells behave. If you put identical cells in Petrie dishes and put them into two different environments, you would get 2 different results. We often forget just how much power all the external influences have in our lives. I knew that something in my daily normal life was pushing my stress buttons, but I just couldn't pinpoint or change it.

So what did I do? I packed up and moved to Mexico all by myself. I left my husband, dog, house, work, friends, and all familiar things behind. I had Dr. Joe Dispenza's book entitled "Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself" in hand and I followed every single suggestion that Dr. Joe made. In fact, I overdid his recommendations and I started every single day with an hour and a half-long deep guided meditation and I kept it up all month. Dr. Joe knows how the brain works and I trusted, that with his help, I could rewire mine.

And I did.

With each passing week, I could feel the difference in my physical body. My muscles and nerves were relaxed, but even more notable was that my mind was clear. I immediately noticed that the constant stream of negative thoughts had vanished. I'm sure this could never have happened if I was still living my normal life at home. It's that nasty inner judge that causes so many problems. Living with somebody who makes every decision completely opposite of how I would make them just kept my inner judge on constant duty. I needed to give that judge a break, or better yet, send him on a long sabbatical.

By removing myself from my familiar environment and all of the normal daily stressors, I gave my nervous system the break that it so needed. When I wasn't meditating I was reading up on crystals, Reiki, and all things energy. I got obsessed with watching Gaia documentaries and films and started to fill my Kindle with books about energy medicine.

Then I went to see a local Pranic healer here in Mexico and that really sealed the deal. I was blown away. She never touched me during my first session but the information she was able to obtain just from 'sensing' my chakras was nothing short of incredible. I walked out of that healing center and I knew my life would never be the same. Not because of the healing that I received, but because it opened my eyes and mind to this magical world of energy. And that, my friends, is what I'm hoping to do for you with this publication - open your eyes to the endless possibilities of harnessing your own energy.

Well, that was nearly a decade ago and I have not stopped with the obsessive learning. I completely changed my career late in life and have so many certifications and degrees to my name now that I need a poster-sized business card. I found a place in Maine to learn how to become a Pranic healer. I got certified in Eden Energy Medicine. I discovered and got certified in Emotion Code and Body Code work. The amount of certifications is too long to list and I'm hoping that achieving the pinnacle degree of Doctorate and PhD will finally allow me to rest . . . at least for a little while. . . and soak in all this knowledge that I'm so grateful to have.

And I owe it all to that first fateful trip to Mexico. It was that year that I decided that I needed to get my first tattoo . . . a butterfly . . . to serve as a permanent reminder of my permanent personal transformation. If a caterpillar can become a beautiful butterfly, surely I can transform from a stressed out, unhappy, judge living in pain to a renewed and awakened happy soul.

It was also on that first to Mexico that I decided to purchase a condo to ensure I would always come back to recharge my batteries and renew my spirit. There is something special about this place for me and I never want to forget the gifts it has provided to me. In fact, I named my business Mariposa Energy (Mariposa is Spanish for butterfly) and that first tattoo became my company logo. Mexico is the place that I know I can also escape to when I need some extra grounding and good energy.

Do you have a special place of your own? It doesn't have to be in a far-off place or a foreign country. It can be a special spot in your own backyard that just makes you forget about the rest of the world - a place where you can plug in and recharge. If you don't, maybe it's time you tried to find one. Be mindful when you spend time in your favorite spots and see how you feel. Listen to the thoughts filling your head. I hope you can find your own zen spot to escape to where the energy around you can help influence the energy inside of you.

So with all that said, I apologize for the audio being subpar. I am recording in this small mostly stone condo. The surroundings in my condo might be hard and cold but my heart is soft and warm. If you enjoyed this podcast please consider hitting a subscribe button and sharing with a friend.

Thanks for listening and stay tuned for more reflections from Mexico.
