Description

Welcome to the Men’s Psychology brief, where we delve into the complexities of male psychology.

A study by Barry and Seager identified three domains of concern for men: fighting and winning, protecting and providing, and emotional self-control. Today, we'll be exploring the aspect of protecting and providing. Tune in as we unravel the intricacies of this male instinct.

In a society where concepts like male orientation and leadership can play significant roles, it's important to understand the various instincts that define masculinity. One of these instincts is the "protecting and providing" aspect, exemplified by three mythological brothers: Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon.

These instincts represent status and hierarchy among men and play a crucial role in the functioning of militaries, governments, law enforcement, and even families and companies.

However, it's essential to approach these instincts with a focus on mental health improvement. Psychotherapy research suggests that actions toward goals, privacy, group dynamics, and concentration on "things" rather than "people" contribute to men's mental well-being.

The Zeus instinct, associated with ultimate masculine leadership, represents the desire for hierarchy and contains the tender care of fathering or mentoring others. The questions that arise in exploring the Zeus instinct revolve around leadership positions and the balance between responsibility and authority.

Action-oriented healing approaches, such as creating men's groups focused on skill-building and leadership or fathering, could be valuable to address any blocks or lack of growth related to the Zeus instinct.

Tasks within the domains of romance and life's mission (career) could involve actions that demonstrate preference and commitment to a love interest, as well as strategic thinking and goal-oriented actions in one's career.

The chief god, Zeus, serves as a role model for men in terms of setting goals, adhering to strategy, and prioritizing one's life mission above external expectations. By embodying the Zeus instinct, men can become the chief administrators of their lives, working to benefit those they love.
