I’ve had ‘learn to surf’ on my list of things I want to do for the last 3 years, first though I had to learn how to swim.

Which meant learning how to be in water.

And I was scared of water, very scared.

But I wanted to be the person who could surf, so I created my sequence and decided that I would just get in water whenever the opportunity arose especially with someone I could learn from.

So while I did not surf in 2025, I DID get in a lot of wild water spots, I learnt how to be cold, to be still, I learnt what going at my own pace feels like to an even more powerful level.

Today’s voice note talks about the ‘action’ piece - how to actually get into your version of the water before you have learnt how to swim, something I did the summer before on a paddleboard with a life jacket and a strong swimming best friend nearby who pointed out if I can balance on a yoga mat I could probably balance on a paddleboard!

She was right. And it was a pivotal moment for me in seeing a skill I didn’t realise I had!

We all have blind spots, it’s how we’re designed but once you get support identifying yours you can work with them not against them.
