Nothing gets my hackles up like the phrase ‘be your best self’
Least of all because, it doesn’t really work, it’s an idea that keeps you constantly stretching because the goal post on your best just keep moving.
Instead, I practise the powerfully simple (but not easy) art of being yourself.
Think taking off heavy clothes that never fit instead of needing to hand sew a couture garment each time you want to go outside.
Lightness. You get to actually stop the struggling and thrashing around and instead think about being - like floating in water when you let go of the side.
I’ll share three key concepts
1. The energy cost of trying to be 'your best self' and how that means starting from not enough
2. Imagining a life where you prioritise mastering being yourself and how that changes everything.
3. Why we don't ‘just be ourselves’
Then I’ll give you three practical steps to get started that I share with my coaching clients and Joy Studio community
What are your thoughts about the concept of ‘your best self’ vs being yourself, have you had any experiences with either?
Would love to know what stops you being yourself and what contexts, or how you’ve overcome them!
