A movement has been underway for a while now with regards to the nature of how technologists can build technologies that make humans better humans.
The audio file above will go into more detail, but I want to let you peek into this movement because you might not be aware of it yet.
I’m in New York City getting ready to moderate a panel this evening at the Amazon AWS headquarters here about stress and burnout within the context of remote work. Its being live-streamed at 7 PM (EST). It can be found here if you want to tune in.
Earlier today a friend and previous podcast guest Andrew Murray Dunn invited me to his coworking space to hear more about his new plans for his company Siempo.
I wasn't thinking much of it more than catching up and seeing if I could help.
Instead, I walk in and meet Andrew's friend Alex Malorodov, and we immediately have a deep conversation about a recent intention I formed to do take the Iboga medicine for healing purposes.
This is a powerful medicine that few people would describe as fun, but I was recently advised by a coach that this medicine, in particular, may be helpful for uncovering the disconnect which leads to a thorny issue I'm facing in my personal life.
After a few minutes, another friend of Andrew's walks in who is named Giancarlo Pitocco.
Giancarlo is a former Facebook employee who left to create an organization called Purposeful that has a goal of liberating our creative intelligence from distractive technology.
All four of us descended into a deeply interesting discussion of the nature of technology and how it can be used to promote the movement of consciousness towards solving some of the existential problems we humans are going to face over the next 30 years.
Over and over again the conversation returned to the starting point which is:
Our relationship to technology is only a symptom of the quality of our relationship to Self.
So the technology we must build is the technology that points to That, it must remove barriers to That, it must support our healing so we can see That.
Once each of us, as individuals, has more deeply connected with our true nature, we will know what we must do personally to make a better world possible.
So you ask:
What is our true nature?
Well, that is a big question and one I don't have time to answer in this single post but here is a small piece of the answer.
It’s the part of us that has been there since the day we were born and is present even when we dream. The light of consciousness that we all share and is so mind-numbingly ordinary that often times we forget it is even there.
The next question:
Can we build technology that does this?
I don't know but I have faith that we can. It is the future that I want to help build. I now have enough evidence that other motivated people with capital and the capability to execute share a similar faith.
What about you?
If you do I highly recommend checking out Siempo as they are building the community of people like those mentioned above. They also have some exciting news that they will be releasing later this month.
