Someone on Twitter asked me to go deeper on a video I made there and asked for a specific podcast so I’m publishing the above which is my experience on why you should have caution before allowing someone to move your teeth.
Basically I argue that Dentists don’t really have a lot of oversight which the New York Times also recently argued and which can be read about here. There are a lot of dentists out there who are ethical, but a lot who are not as well.
There is a reason why you shouldn’t extend trust to all dentists just because they have years of training.
It takes a long time to develop a model of how the human body works, but you don’t need to be a doctor in order to develop that model. If you are in pain I would strongly urge you to start doing five minutes a day of research about the part of body that is pain.
Over time you will develop a model of the body that will at least allow you to ask the right questions when interfacing with medical providers. Unite the rational mind with the intuition and really dig into what these people tell you.
You might save yourself a lot of time and pain in the long run by doing the research up front. Please let me know if I can help with this.
