James continues our new teaching series on what it means to be God's image by exploring the nature of our work in God’s creation. He begins by pointing out how flawed beliefs about work do great damage to our God-given identity before going on to remind us that God values, delights in, and takes part in work. It is not a 'necessary evil' but an inherently good part of being human. James highlights how God’s work involves bringing order out of chaos and providing life and nourishment for all his creatures. He also discusses how God's work is inherently creative and leads to flourishing for all, hence, being made in His image means our work ought to follow in this very same pattern: bringing order from chaos, creating structure in the world, valuing and delighting in the work of our hands and in the work of others, and working together to make our neighbourhoods, our city, our country and our world a beautiful home for all.
