Chris Helwick is a 35-year-old professional decathlete and self-proclaimed “born-again athlete.” After a 5th place finishes at the 2012 US Olympic Trials in the decathlon, Helwick hung up his spikes, certain his athletic career was over. However, after spending six years in retirement, Helwick decided he had unfinished business. So in 2018, he announced he’d be coming out of retirement with plans to make a third and final attempt at the Olympic decathlon. Chris now trains full-time at Colorado State University where he serves as a volunteer assistant coach for the Ram’s Track and Field team and has set his sight on the 2021 Olympic Games.
