- No feelings of disappointment or quilt when commitments not met
- This isn’t leader holding everyone accountable
- This means team members aren’t holding each other accountable
- Misalignment
- Lack of commitment to strategy or next steps
- Half-hearted efforts
- Could be as severe as sabotage
- Has nothing to do with lack of understanding
- Driven by disagreement of best strategy or next steps
- Disagreement can be ego driven
- Most often driven by lack of opportunity to voice opinions and concerns
- How to begin building accountable alignment
- Start with accountability
- Misalignment is corrected by accountability, therefore we must start with accountability
- The team needs a tool & process to which they hold one another accountable
- Lack of accountability is often attributed to lack of understand of what to hold accountable to
- Accountability is created with goal, cadence of commitments, and scoreboard
- Clear goal must be understood by team
- Each team member makes commitments to the team to contribute to the goal
- Scoreboard tracking highlights when a team member misses a commitment
- Correcting misalignment is largely the responsibility of the leader
- Every team member must have the opportunity to share opinions & concerns
- Some team members may even need to be forced to share
- Consensus is not the goal
- Decision made, verbal commitments are made by all
- Every member should be affirmed after decision is made
- The accountability process mentioned before drives results
