At some point in all of our lives, we’ve all upheld inauthentic versions of ourselves to make those around us most comfortable and maintain relationships. We’ve distorted who we are, kept ourselves small and dimmed our brilliance in order to ensure our acceptance by others.
Add our unhealed trauma to the mix and we have a perfect recipe for self-abandonment.
And, if we're being completely honest, this way of relating works...until it doesn't.
This episode is an invitation to get curious into those relationships that invite in your self-abandonment.
Maybe you're in a partnership where it would create conflict and potentially end the relationship if you were who you truly wanted to be.
Maybe a relationship with a parent where they only know a version of you—the version that pleases them the most.
Or a friendship where you’re biting your tongue or dimming your light to maintain the friendship.
The ways we self-abandon are endless, but our awareness of how it shows up for us and why is the starting point. Listen to this episode for more!
