Happy Mural Month! Today’s episode is all about everyone’s favorite topic: art money. “How do I price my art project?” is typically the question I get asked the most, so let’s chat about it.
Here’s a few tips and general overview of the things I go over in this episode:
My 3 main methods of pricing:
- Square Foot- 100 sqft x $25 per sqft = $2,500
- Time- How much time will it take me to complete this project?
- By Project- What are the general budgets for this type of project?
Factors to consider:
- Experience- The better you are, the more you can charge.
- Location- The higher the cost of living in an area, the more you can charge.
- Popularity- The more sought after you are, the more you can charge.
Bid Strategies:
- Over/Under- Give a starting price and a max price to help gauge where their budget falls within the two.
- High/Low Options- Give a simple sketch and an amazing sketch to help the customer visualize what a low and high budget can get them.
- Base Price + Add-ons- Give the price for the bulk of the mural then additional charges for smaller details.
BIG TIP! - Give the price over the phone or in person to gauge their reaction in real time and play on that. This helps eliminate ghosting!
