The episode features a conversation with Tieranee Jones, a second-year student at Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law, about her summer internship with Law Students in Court (LSIC). During the interview, Tieranee discusses the projects she worked on including conducting client intakes at the LSIC landlord-tenant court office, inspecting and documenting housing conditions, and drafting complaints and motions. She also shares how the internship helped her understand the importance of giving back by serving people who cannot afford legal representation. Being able to effectively communicate with and show empathy towards clients were her greatest lessons learned. At the end of the interview, she reviews and recommends law professor Michelle Alexander's book, "The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness" for interns, law students and youth to read.
