Description

Challenges in the seafood and aquaculture industry were highlighted in a recent sector report in Asian Meat Magazine, focusing on rising production cost and retail prices. Processed seafood, which is convenient, affordable, and abundantly available currently needs more promotion and marketing to lure consumers. This is due to price volatility, high feed prices, and supply constraints. However, challenges do not mean fewer opportunities. Rather, solutions to capitalize on these opportunities must be explored.  Measures need to be implemented to stabilize access to these proteins and make retail prices attractive. The solution lies in good policies to develop and maintain production or availability, which is already happening in countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
