Faculty at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg are working with the Florida Department of Corrections to help reduce recidivism and improve job prospects for people re-entering the workforce.
Education faculty recently led workshops for correctional teachers across 11 state prisons — from Pensacola to Miami — focused on reading, writing, and comprehension strategies for adults at different literacy levels. Both partners plan to keep refining the program in the years ahead.

USF is also expanding healthcare education with a new bachelor’s degree in nursing on the St. Pete campus. About 100 Pinellas County high school students recently toured the nursing simulation labs, getting hands-on experience with lifelike manikins and hospital equipment.
