The 2018 Individual State Wrestling Tournament at the Excel Energy Center kicked off with Class AA action. Jake Andres of Pierz won his 120 lb match with a Pin, but Brandon Tomala and Carson Huls both lost their openers and had to wait and see if they got a Friday night wrestleback match. For Foley, they had a good round with wins from Nathan Garceau, Cameron Kowitz,John Dierkes, Justin Henry, Saylor Schmit and Mitch Trigg. Mitch Rothfork lost his match at 145 to the #1 ranked wrestler in the State from Hibbing and had to hope for a wrestleback.
