The SPLA-IO affiliated to Riek Machar says they have released 15 prisoners of war in accordance with the cessation of hostilities agreement.
The December 21 agreement gave parties till 7th January – 14 days since the signing of the deal to hand over all prisoners of war to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The deputy spokesperson of the SPLA-IO Lam Paul Gabriel told Radio Miraya that the 15 prisoners of war were released in Kolopach airstrip, New Fangak, Phow State.
ICRC communications officer, Mari Aftret Mortvedt confirms that a release operation has taken place but said their dealings with warring parties remain confidential.
