The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has confirmed the presence of a swarm of desert locusts has entered Kapoeta east County in Eastern Equatoria state.
FAO says the swarm is a third generation of insects that crossed the border from Kenya’s lake Turkana region in recent days.
Morris Felix Juma, FAO plant protection officer, says the destructive pests appear to be migrating to warmer breeding areas in Sudan and the Sahel region.
A technical team is on alert to respond in case the locusts settle in the area.
Mr. Juma spoke to Radio Miraya in this 5” interview.
