Head of United Nation Mission In South Sudan, UNMISS, David Shearer has expressed happiness over the resumption of talks between government and the hold-out groups to take place in Italy next week. Mr Shearer urged all parties to attend the meeting with a genuine willingness to secure durable peace. 

Mr Shearer has further urged government to show transparency and accountability in the running of its affairs. He said South Sudanese have the right to know how much government is earning and how the money is being spent. Mr Shearer said there has been no public record of government expenditure in South Sudan since 2017.  He said this at a press conference in Juba today
