Description

The university of Juba has suspended operations to all students except for post-graduate students. The institution will close for one week from today 27 Oct to 1st November, then open from 2nd - 21 November for students’ registration and payment of fees for at least a semester.

University's Vice Chancellor John Akech the  says the move will calm the situation where students have been protesting at the university gate since Friday.
Some students from Juba University have been protesting a decision by the university to only allow those that have registered and paid fees to enter the university premises.

Professor Akech says these are students who believe they should be studying for free.

The Vice Chancellor says only about 30% of more than 20,000 students have paid their fees and this is not enough to smoothly run the institution.
