Education authorities in Twic East county of Jonglei state have instructed school-going girls to turn up in person to receive their latest cash transfer payments.

The County Education office requires the eligible girls to report with a validation card.

More than 2,000 girls from primary five to primary eight and senior one to senior four have been registered to receive the money under the Girls Education South Sudan cash transfer program.

The county director for education, Magok Kuir says girls who do not turn up will be marked absent.

The new directive follows concerns by civil rights activists who are worried that girls sheltering in far-off areas due to the flooding in the state may miss out on the payment and eventually fail to enroll in school, next academic year.

The activists are appealing to the GESS program and the ministry of general education to consider making payments at the IDP sites.

Last month the Ministry of General Education and the GESS program launched the 2nd round of cash-transfers for 2020.  Girls in candidate classes of primary eight and senior four will receive 8,250 pounds each, while the other classes will receive 5,500 pounds to buy scholastic items and other basic items needed to keep them in school.
