Clearing mines and unexploded ordnance, known as UXOs is one of the tools that the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan uses to safeguard the population; that is according to a demining expert working for the UN mission, UNMISS.
A recent search operation for weapons just outside a UN protection of civilians or POC site in the capital Juba was carried out to ensure the safety of civilians.
The UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS) helped to search for the weapons, which were suspected of being hidden by criminal gangs.
