President Salva Kiir has delivered a state of the nation address.

The 30 minute speech focused on the economy, highlighting steps the government has taken to address the economic situation.

In his address to a joint session of the National Legislative Assembly and the Council of States, the President notably directed the Finance Ministry and the Central Bank to study how best to realign exchange rates, remarking that black market foreign exchange dealers have ‘slaughtered the country’

The President also stressed that the government has not borrowed money externally, but is using money sourced against pre-sale of oil revenues.

On the peace process, President Kiir made a rallied call for citizens to support the peace process and readily welcome members of the Sudan People’s Liberation Moment/Army in the opposition on their return home.
