Description

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) remains deeply concerned about the outbreak of fighting between the SPLA and SPLA in Opposition in and around Malakal town in Upper Nile.

Intermittent shelling has been reported over the last few days in the Ditang area, which is about 2 km from the UN base and the protection of civilian site currently accommodating 33,000 civilians.

UNMISS spokesperson Daniel Dickinson says the Protection of Civil Site itself is calm.

Dickinson says the situation remained tense on Sunday, but there was no shelling or gunfire heard since Saturday evening.

He spoke to Philip Wani.
