Preparations are underway for the arrival of the long awaited Regional Protection Force, expected in the country within the next few weeks. Spokesperson of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, Daniel Dickinson says a command headquarters is already in place in Juba and a mine clearance exercise is underway on a plot of land that will accommodate the forces.
Outgoing UN Peacekeeping Chief Herve Ladsous during a recent visit to Juba announced the imminent deployment of the 4,000 strong force that was authorized by the UN Security Council, to boost security in Juba and its surroundings following renewed fighting last July.
