Do you struggle every time your kids have a meltdown or tantrum?
Then this advice could be just what you’ve been waiting for! Keep reading...
We’ve got 5 STEPS for you to help kids deal with their emotions, and our child-whisperers Mitch and Mills, are breaking them down for you in our new episode of Dorothy and the Dealer.
Can’t wait that long? Okay… we’ll give you a quick rundown.
- Breathe. And remember they aren’t GIVING you a hard time, they are HAVING a hard time.
- Give them the space to express their feeling
- Don’t take it personally. They aren’t mad at you, but at whatever is causing their ‘overwhelm’
- Give words to why they are hurting. The worst thing you can do is ignore it.
- Wait until they are OUTSIDE the emotion (in place and time) to discuss the real stuff that’s going down.
Remember - kids are just little versions of ourselves. And what do we want most when we feel scared, frustrated, or pissed-off? We want someone to listen to us, help us put into words what we’re dealing with, and make us feel seen.
