Description

On August 5, 2010, more than 700,000 tons of rock suddenly caved in, blocking the central passage to the tunnels in the San José Mine in Chile’s Atacama Desert. This collapse left 33 men trapped deep under ground in extreme conditions beneath some of the hardest rock on the planet. The rescue operation that followed was an extraordinary effort with an enormous time pressure and involved teamwork by hundreds of people from different organizations, areas of expertise, and countries.
