The human soul struggles with truth. This dilemma is brought out in the early chapters of Matthew that lead to Jesus's teachings and solution.
The wise men hunger for truth and show us the call to obedience when we discover the truth. Herod represents the wicked heart of humanity that is given the truth, but rejects it to protect our won worldly, self interests.
The wise men gain joy in the truth of Jesus as they worship Him. Herod brings death and will experience death in his denial of the truth of Jesus. This is what the world struggles with today in our Global War for the human soul!
