Description

On a special double-feature edition of The Backgrounder, Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian and Police Chief Henry White talk about leading a city facing a multiple challenges. Atlantic City’s fight against poverty has been exacerbated by the closure of four casinos that put thousands of employees out of work. Meanwhile, the city’s police department has been facing a community relations crisis that has drawn the scrutiny of state and federal officials. Atlantic City is also where Superstorm Sandy made landfall and the city is still recovering from the disaster. But the Mayor and the Chief of Police are fueled by a common vision for the future. That vision begins with a focus on Atlantic City as a community where people can work, live, and raise families. Achieving that will require the Mayor and the Chief of Police to foster what they call the next reinvention of Atlantic City. They explain exactly how they intend to do that on this episode.
