Description

Wilda Diaz was first elected mayor of the City of Perth Amboy in 2008, upsetting the entrenched incumbent Joe Vas. The Star-Ledger characterized the condition of the city at the time Diaz took office as “teetering on the edge of bankruptcy.” Then, in 2012, Superstorm Sandy destroyed the city’s waterfront. In this episode, Diaz, who is incidentally the state’s only Latina mayor and the first Latina to be elected mayor, talks about the challenges she has led the city to overcome. She also explains why she wants the voters of Perth Amboy to return her to City Hall for a third term.
