Coach Chris is in the midst of attaining his PhD, so in addition to having a full time job in the military and being a coach for us, he spends most of his time studying. Because of this, this is the last (for now) of our “Study of the Week” series. In this episode, we talk about the idea of Flexible Training, and look at two studies that investigate this emerging idea in the exercise world. Flexible training proposes allowing an athlete to vary workouts either within a training block or within a week in order to accommodate their individual circumstances. We look at “Implementing Flexible Training Why and How (https://www.strongerbyscience.com/flexible-training/)” by Zourdos, Michael and “Comparison of Powerlifting Performance in Trained Men Using Traditional and Flexible Daily Undulating Periodization (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28129275/)” by Colquhoun, RJ et al. As proponents of Flexible Dieting, we are excited about the benefits of adapting the concept of being flexible and responsive to individual circumstances. We think it will show tremendous benefit and change the way people exercise in the future.
