Human beings are meant to be social. Our biological, psychological, and social systems have evolved to thrive in collaborative networks of people. However, as people grow older, their social networks tend to thin leading in many cases to isolation and loneliness which have become a major source of public health concerns.

 

In today’s episode, Nicola and Olivia address loneliness and social isolation. They review evidence that social isolation affects health and mortality, whether or not the isolation is accompanied by subjective loneliness.
