The Black Spy Podcast brings you another hard hitting, thought provoking and educational discussion, this time with UK Prison medic, Dr. Tracy Hopwood, who has spent years working in all of Britain's prison categories (Prisons in the UK are placed into alphabetical categories from 'open prisons category D to maximum security prisons Cat A). During this sit down Carlton and Tracy discuss the various prison regimes, the abuse of drugs in prisons, prison violence, the ingenious alcoholic drinking concoctions made by prisoners, the corrupting of officials and the atmosphere of fear generated in prisons that effects both staff and inmates.
We learn of Doctor Hopwood's journey into 'prison medicine', why she finds it rewarding and her inner most thoughts on the capacity of prison to rehabilitate.
Carlton also recounts his experience of prisons from around the world, and questions the UK ability in this sphere.
Dr Hopwood speaks of the absolute resourcefulness of some prisoners, their chameleon like ability to fit in to the prison system in order to seek release or fool those tasked with judging their suitability for release. Dr Hopwood also mentions how she was shocked by the sheer charismatic exhibited by some serial killers.
Finally, Carlton and the Tracy discuss his attempts to speak to various prisoners including the infamous, Carlos the Jackal, in Paris, suicide bombers in Israel and the right wing Brixton nail bomber David Copeland in the UK.
In short, this is another Black Spy episode that defies simple analysis by surpassing the show's aim of educating listeners whilst also entertaining them.
