Wayne Okell MBE: A life preparing for war!
Wayne Okell was born and breed in a dying northern English mining town where the people were hard - salt of the earth. Although Wayne’s family were loving and nurturing, Wayne soon learnt that the towns streets and even school offered no refuge from the casual violence dispensed as a way of life.
Even when older, and pubs beckoned, Wayne explains that a wrong glance or gesture could end in conflict. Therefore, when by accident, Wayne found himself outside a military recruitment office, the thought of combat in Her Majesty’s armed forces, seemed no more than continuity, albeit with added purpose.
This chance situation would lead to Wayne’s journey into the orbit of the UK’s Special Forces - Royal Marine Commandos, SBS and SAS and his endeavour to create a greater level of readiness and muscle memory within such operatives. However, Wayne also wished to provide them with the split second psychological capacity to, when necessary, override this desired quickest of all and generally intended objective.
Once again this weeks episode is a fascinating must listen, episode of the Black Spy Podcast, especially for those who have any interest in UK Special Forces and other such operatives.
