The O.A.A.U. initiated the pilgrimage in 1965, after the burial of Malcolm X, to honor and show respect for our people’s fallen leader as well as to educate future generations about the legacy of Malcolm X and his effort to liberate African People’s minds and bodies. The ceremony was designed by Sister Ella Collins, the sister of Malcolm X, then President of the O.A.A.U., and was directed by her until Rodnell Collins, Bro. James Small and Bro. Willie Stark were appointed to continue the pilgrimage. Today the pilgrimage is led by a new generation of young leaders.
Transportation will depart the Anacostia Metro Station at 4:00 am and return at 10:30 pm.
