21 January 2014 is the 114th anniversary of the birth of Webster Booth in Handsworth, Staffordshire. I remember him as a singing teacher and friend, and will always remember our close association when I was his studio accompanist in my late teens and early twenties. Our friendship lasted until his death in 1984.
Most people think of him as a romantic duettist with his third wife, Anne Ziegler and forget that he made many solo recordings and was one of the foremost oratorio tenors of his generation.
In this tribute broadcast you will hear the voices of Webster Booth, Peter Dawson, Harold Williams, Isobel Baillie and Kathleen Ferrier.
