Estate Planning for Unmarried Couples:
Did you know that there is no such thing as a common law marriage in California? If you pass away without an estate plan most, if not all, of your property will go to someone other than your significant other. The only exception is when you jointly own certain kinds of property.
In addition, your significant other has no say in what happens to you medically if you become incapacitated without certain documents filled out.
There are ways to prevent that from happening. Strategic estate planning allows you to leave property to your loved one and does not require you to be married.
