In Exodus chapter 19 the Israelites arrive at Mt Sinai, the Mt of God, just two months after being set free from slavery in Egypt. Upon arriving, it becomes clear that this has been their destination from the beginning, and God now reveals clearly what has been His purpose all along - to invite them into a covenant relationship with Him, where they would be His special, treasured people, and He would be their God. He has redeemed them and carried them to this place as on eagles wings by His great kindness and grace. Now He invites them into something so much more. The people accept the invitation, and now God reveals Himself to the people much as He did to Moses at the burning bush, only this time in a way much more spectacular - by a burning Mountain! Through this revelation, God will speak to them the Ten Commandments which begins the unfolding of all the covenant requirements that are spelled out in the rest of Exodus and Leviticus.
