Big Idea - In this section Matthew illustrates that Jesus’ kingdom is more than just a way of thinking or a higher moral standard, it is a kingdom that confronts evil directly, and has the power to overcome and defeat the terrible consequences of sin. Jesus is not a King who has come to overthrow Rome, but He is coming to overthrow sin and all the brokenness that is the result of sin. The coming of the kingdom means there is a restoration of all that is broken and wrong as a result of sin and the fall. Jesus’ kingdom is more than just a world view, it is the power to return all things to God's original design in creation. We live between the kingdom drawing near and the kingdom come. We still sin, and so we must still deal with its impact, but we are overcoming sin, and we the power of God will overcome many of its consequences. But, these are only a glimmer of the final victory over sin and all its consequences that await Jesus’ return. So, we see that Jesus is the ultimate cure for a sick and broken world!
