Big Idea - What must we do if we are to be a student of Jesus? And why would anyone make such a radical commitment? A “Follower” of Jesus is a student in Jesus’ program of study to be one of His representatives in the world. It involves learning all that He taught and commanded so that we can live as He lived. It also involves going on mission with Him in the world - doing His work (preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom).
In order to be a true follower of Jesus, we must make the ultimate commitment to Him - to follow Him all the time, no matter what, everywhere He goes (sends). Such a radical commitment makes great sense when we understand fully who He is. He is the Lord of all creation who has power over everything. We do not follow Him because He keeps us safe, or because He will make our life easy, for that is not what He promises. We follow Him because His mission cannot fail and so, neither will we fail to accomplish God’s great purpose for our life.
