Big Idea - The people had finally come to understand that sin and holiness cannot mix - like touching a high voltage wire So, how can God possibly live in their midst and not completely destroy them! God made two provisions to protect the people from His holy wrath. The first was the ministry of the Priests and Levites. It was their responsibility to stand between sinful people and the holiness of God so that the people would not be destroyed. The second was the provision of a means of cleansing from the impurity and stain of death by the ashes of a red heifer mixed with living water. Jesus is both our great High Priest who allows us to draw near to God and not be destroyed by His holiness. Jesus is also our red heifer, who absorbed the full effect of death by dying Himself so that we can be made alive with Him!
