Big Idea - What is the worship that pleases God? The author of Hebrews has given his final warning to “pay attention to the one who is speaking.” This has been a key focus of the sermon - to live in the complete truth of all that Jesus has obtained for us by His blood and to walk in that new life by faith. His conclusion is a "therefore" to live our lives with deep gratitude and worship. Worship here is focused on pleasing God with our whole life. So, what exactly does it look like to give God worship that is pleasing to Him? The worship that comes from our daily life and that pleases God is, first of all, loving our brothers and sisters in Christ. We love them by 1) Showing hospitality to strangers, 2) Helping those who are struggling and in need, 3) Guarding marriage as something sacred and highly valued, and 4) Not loving stuff. The love of stuff is one of the greatest hindrances to really loving people and showing generosity to those in need. The way to break the grip of materialism is through confidence in God's promises to take care of us. The more confident we are in the generosity of God toward us, the greater our generosity toward others.
