What does a Christ follower look like? What is a Disciple? A disciple is one who is following Jesus. Jesus teaches that following Him and being saved by Him are one in the same thing. If salvation is a free gift, how can following Him be a condition or requirement of salvation? While there is nothing we can Do to be saved, there are plenty of things that would prevent us from turning to Jesus for forgiveness and eternal life.
Here Jesus makes the point that a disciple is one who has considered carefully their prospects at success, peace, and significance, and has found that these are far beyond their reach. They know they do not possess the resources or power in themselves, but they are convinced these are available through Christ! They have "counted the cost" and, having found themselves woefully short, they gladly forsake everything and willingly embrace pain, suffering, and even death in order to follow Jesus and achieve life as it was intended to be. They will let nothing in this world, prevent them from following Jesus, because they know their life will be failure, defeat, and worthless without Him! But, they will find great success, peace, and significance in Him
