Peter’s failure as a friend and follower of Jesus by denying Jesus at the very moment Jesus was about to lay down His life for His friends, is one of the most painful moments in the Gospels. Peter's denial was a rejection of Jesus as Lord, and a serious betrayal of His friendship - he did not prove to be a faithful friend. Peter caved in to the temptation of caring too much about what people thought of him - caring more about the opinions of people than his loyalty to Jesus.
