Description

Big Idea - The question in this passage is not so much how we can be saved, but beyond that, how can we be great in the kingdom. How can our righteousness exceed that of the Pharisees (salvation) and how can be great in God’s kingdom? We are saved by Jesus who fulfills the law in Himself, His life and His work. His death pays the price where we have utterly failed the law deserve hell. His perfect life is the perfect fulfillment of the Law's ultimate purpose to show us the loving heart of God. In Jesus, God saved His unfaithful bride; keeps all His promises; shows grace and kindness instead of taking the revenge that was His right; loved His enemies by doing good for them. But we become great in the Kingdom by doing and teaching the Law as Jesus interpreted and fulfilled it. His redeeming work makes it possible for us to even begin to pursue such a life. It is Christ in us and our union with Him that gives us power through His Spirit to fulfill His commands. It is more than keeping rules, it is loving God and the World like God does. By this we show that we are sons of God - His true children.
