We live in a world that is disinterested and even sometimes hostile to the Gospel. In the upper room, where Christ ate the last supper with his disciples, he warned that difficult times were coming. He told Peter that all of the disciples would be sifted, or tried, and that Peter would fall away and return. In fact, Peter would deny him three times before the day was to be finished. Jesus told the disciples that in contrast to the last times that he sent them out without necessities and they relied on the hospitality and goodness of others, they needed to be prepared this time. Things were going to be different.
