Big Idea - After seeing Jesus do so many incredible miracles, how could the disciples still be so slow to understand what Jesus can and will do for them? How can they so easily misunderstand what Jesus is telling them and showing them? It is easy to look from a distance and puzzle at how the disciples could be so dense, but we are probably not much better. How often are we overcome by fear and worry, with growing uncertainty that our needs will be met or that things will work out? More importantly, how often do we miss spiritual truths God is trying to teach us because we are worried about the wrong things?

The disciple’s problem was that they thought too little of God and too much of themselves, and that is certainly our problem as well! The solution is to reflect often on the wonder of God: His love and compassion for those in need, the abundance of His generous power to help, and the truth of the cross as evidence of God's heart toward us. At the same time, we need to be remembering our great weakness: our tendency to put confidence in what we can accomplish, and our inclination to worry so much about the wrong things (the material), that we miss what is truly important (the spiritual).
