Most of us know that are we are supposed to pray, and that prayer is somehow part of the Christian life. But in reality most of us do not pray, at least not in the way that Jesus did. As a result, our lives do not have the power that Jesus had either. We dismiss this problem by thinking that God never intended us to do what Jesus did, and we settle for a life that is powerless and fruitless. But, the disciples watched Jesus pray, and they made the connection between His prayer life and His ministry life - they wanted to know how to pray like Jesus did so they could live life with the same power that Jesus had! And after the resurrection they proved to be men of great power and effectiveness, just as Jesus was. But prayer does not seem to have that effect upon us. What are we doing wrong? Jesus teaches the disciples to pray by showing them what to ask for, and by instilling in them a boldness to ask with the knowledge that their Father in heaven loves to respond by giving!
