Big Idea - How does the Burnt Offering help us better understand the atoning sacrifice of Jesus? The burnt offering was a visible symbol and very hands-on experience of paying the price for sin, in order to maintain a good and peace filled relationship with the Holy God of the Bible. The Burnt Offering did not take away sin, but when done properly as an act of faith and obedience, it was a means of receiving grace, and for dealing with sin so the worshipper can be restored to a right relationship with God. The Burnt Offering is a powerful image of Jesus the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. In this symbol, we see the need for atonement to satisfy the wrath of God, how Jesus is our substitute and it is possible for us to “die with Him”, and finally it is a powerful reminder of the ransom price that had to be paid, only in Gospel of Christ, it is not we who paid the ransom, but the full cost was borne by God alone in Christ.
