Big Idea - What kind of person does God reveal Himself to and help out? The democratic mind may feel that God must reveal Himself universally to all, and any who are so disposed may choose Him. But that is not the way God, the creator of the universe, works. He has hidden revelation from those who think they know it all and who think they have everything under control, but He reveals Himself to those who are as helpless as infants. This is very contrary to the thinking of the world, where we are must prove we are good enough, smart enough, strong enough, beautiful enough to belong, to fit in. God is not impressed by our self-sufficiency and independence. He is looking for the humble - those who know they need help.
The help He offers is no small thing. It is not worthless or optional, but is life-saving and life-giving. He promises to help us deal with all the problems and struggles of life, not by taking away the problems but by showing us a different way to live - the way of depending on His power and wisdom instead of our own. Those who know their need for help find it by 1) coming to Jesus, 2) taking up His yoke, 3) learning from Him. These will find rest for their souls.
